Custom Ultrasonic Transducers for a Wide Variety of Applications
Piezo Technologies designs and manufactures a wide range of custom, piezoelectric ultrasonic transducers. We have extensive experience solving complex piezoelectric material and ultrasonic transducer challenges and designing and manufacturing high temperature, high pressure, and harsh environment ceramics and transducers for our customers.
Ultrasonic pulse-echo transducers operate individually by generating ultrasonic pulses, which travel through a medium (such as air, liquid, or solid), reflect from an interface, and are detected, enabling measurement or evaluation of the transporting medium. They are commonly used for identifying cracks, inclusions, and other defects.
Ultrasonic pitch-catch transducers operate in opposing pairs separated by a medium. The source generates an ultrasonic pulse and the receiver detects the ultrasonic pulse in one way transit. They are commonly used for measuring flow and fluid properties.
Type | Description | Applications | Frequency range |
---|---|---|---|
Contact transducers | make direct contact with a material to measure cracks, wear, and internal defects | pipeline inspection, corrosion monitoring, delamination detection | 1–20 MHz |
Immersion transducers | operate in liquids when direct liquid contact is required to measure fluid properties | level gauging, sonar, hydrophones | 250 kHz–10 MHz |
Thickness gauges | make contact with metal to measure thickness loss, surface corrosion, erosion, and pitting | pipeline inspection, corrosion monitoring, erosion monitoring | 1–20 MHz |
Flow meters | opposing pitch-catch pairs measure the transit time and flow rate of a fluid | gas flow monitoring, liquid flow monitoring | 20 kHz–1 MHz |
Dual element transducers | aligned pitch-catch pairs measure cracks, wear, and internal defects | flaw detection, thickness gauging, delamination detection | 1–20 MHz |
