Composites

Our custom, high frequency piezoelectric dice-and-fill composites are a matrix of piezoelectric ceramic pillars and a passive intermediate material, such as an epoxy or polymer. We produce 1-3 composites and 2-2 PZT/polymer composites in which the piezoceramic material is continuous in one direction.
Whether you are sourcing piezoelectric composite elements or full transducer design and manufacturing, we offer in-house solutions to meet your requirements. Pulse-echo transducers made with our piezo composite material offer the wide bandwidth capability of lead metaniobate and the sensitivity and efficiency of lead zirconate titanate (PZT).
Benefits of piezoelectric composites and transducers
- Reduced lateral coupling compared to traditional solid piezoceramics
- Lower acoustic impedance and higher coupling coefficient
- Tunable acoustic impedance for transducer material matching
- Higher bandwidth and sensitivity for better pulse-echo image quality
- Faster ringdown for reduced echo interference
